Change the law.
Make our stories count.
Children who grow up in homes where domestic abuse happens — even when they’re not the direct target — often live with lifelong trauma. But in the eyes of the law, we don’t count. We can’t really report what happened. We can’t bring charges. And we’re left to carry the damage without recognition or justice.
This petition asks the UK Government to recognise people who grew up around domestic abuse — not just those who were physically assaulted — as victims in law.
We may not have been hit.
But we were still hurt.
And it’s time the law saw us.
What we’re asking for:
✅ A clear right for adult children to report past domestic abuse — and have it investigated.
🧠 Recognise emotional, coercive and environmental abuse — not just physical violence.
⏳ Scrap time limits on reporting psychological harm from childhood.
👨👩👧👦 Expand the legal definition of domestic abuse to include harm to children in the home.
👮♂️ Require police and CPS to take adult child cases seriously — even without physical injury.
